Trenddeko Friedrich - The Arctic Ocean

Characteristic of the Romantic era is a melancholic aura in the images. This is also evident in many works of the painter Caspar David Friedrich, who was born in 1774.

In contrast to the often romantically dreamy motifs of Caspar David Friedrich, the painting "The Sea of Ice," created in 1823/24, is imbued with a certain drama. An Arctic landscape, under a pile of sharply edged ice floes, still reveals parts of a sailing ship, which both touches and fascinates.

The original is housed in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg and was created around 1823. It was painted in oil on canvas.
