Trenddeko de Goya - The sleep of reason gives birth to monsters

The painter Francisco de Goya, born in 1746, made a name for himself early on as a portraitist. With his appointment as "First Court Painter," the Spanish artist achieved a position that represented the pinnacle of an artistic career at that time. A severe illness that led to subsequent deafness changed the artist's perspective on the world, which is reflected in his works.

The image "de Goya – The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters" depicts a motif from the Caprichos, a socially critical cycle by the painter created between 1793 and 1799. The representation was executed using the special aquatint "etching technique," which is still associated with Goya today.

The original is housed in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
