Following the successful project with Parsons The New School for Design in 2007, Nachtmann expanded its relationships with world-renowned design schools and initiated a new competition with the Pratt Institute in New York in 2010. The Quartz design by design student Catherine Merrick was honoured in this competition. Quartz sand is one of the main raw materials used in the manufacture of crystal glass. The sparkling surfaces of the raw material in its crystalline structure were the inspiration for Catherine Merrick.
