To be allowed to seal products with the Downpass, manufacturers must ensure that only down and feathers from controlled animal husbandry are used.

For a successful Downpass audit, both announced and unannounced inspections are conducted on-site at the breeding farms: Caging and live plucking are prohibited, and any form of feather harvesting from live animals is forbidden. Adequate housing, sufficient supply of feed and fresh water, protection of animals from diseases and natural predators, as well as care by knowledgeable staff are essential prerequisites for passing the audit.
