Unilluminated, we see the deep blue of the oceans. When the map image is illuminated, we see the entire ground structure, the depths, the volcanoes and the ocean basins. The continents are outlined with brilliant blue vignettes that make the whole appearance even more elegant and attractive. But it is not only in the sea that you get to see these fascinating effects; on land, too, you notice the harmoniously coloured countries and borders of the world, which, when illuminated, show vivid, almost three-dimensional mountains and valleys.
