Product details
Among the many gems of ancient Islam, the decorative bookbinding art is particularly noteworthy. Symmetry and delicacy of line are the hallmarks of these bindings, whose style spans many centuries from simple geometric patterns of the 14th century to the complex compositions of the 16th century. Associated with the Golden Age of Islam, the Persian-Safavid style represented a high point in book art. These bindings feature medallions, quadrants, plants and animal motifs; they have pentagonal folding covers and intricately decorated doubloors (inside covers), exquisite creations with filigree patterns, colored paper and gilding. Our series, inspired by doubloors, reproduces a filigree leather pattern that includes hand-decorated surfaces and motifs that retain elegance and style even in our modern context.
