Founded in 1946 as Zweckform Schreibwaren und Bürobedarfs GmbH in a former cow shed in Oberlaindern, Bavaria, the company initially produced successful forms and carbonless books, and later also receipt pads and other office supplies. In 1956, it entered into a licensing agreement with the label company of American Stan Avery, who had developed the first self-adhesive labels in the world over 20 years earlier.
