Is it possible to mount this baby gate without screwing it? Because we would like to mount the grille between the kitchen unit and the wall. However, I don't want to bore the kitchen unit (wood) because we live in a rented flat. Are there any alternatives?

Yes, I stuck it to the window in two strips with TESA outdoor adhesive tape on both sides and then fixed it a little crosswise with transparent adhesive tape and it held for our twins for 2 years. So it should also hold on the kitchen counter in your house.
