Do you have to lift it when opening it? Can the latch be opened without a lot of force? Our 4-year-old should be able to operate it well. But lifting it would not be possible.

Yes, you have to lift it slightly to open the little door after you have already opened the clasp, as it also locks at the bottom. However, the opening mechanism is one of the easiest and does not jam, so it is comfortable to release. We have already tried and installed a few brands due to the different passage widths in our house (Safety 1st, although it is super stable and does not need to be lifted, it is quite strict to open and close, so that my own fingers often hurt and I sometimes prefer to just step over it, Baby Dan needs strength and needs to be lifted, Hauck was too wobbly in our opinion, which is why we replaced it with the Baby Dan, but of course this is all very subjective). In our opinion, the reer I-Gate has the most user-friendly lock and we also like it by far in terms of quality. According to my husband, it was also the best in terms of installation.

You have to lift it and it needs a bit of strength. Our 4.5-year-old can't do it on his own at the moment, but he probably won't need much more until he can.
