Yes and no, we screwed the bars to boards (bought specially from Jumbo) and clamped them between the mattresses. We also have a barrier rail on the side where the baby sleeps and one at the bottom of the bed so that the rails are connected to each other. This makes it very stable. The bars are also very high so that our one-year-old child can't climb over them, even when he stands up. I can highly recommend it.
