The Medela nipple shields gently prepare your nipple for breastfeeding. Light pressure pushes the nipples outward, making it easier for you to latch your baby. The soft, flexible silicone membrane provides comfort and a pleasant wearing experience. There is an easy way to determine if you have flat or inverted nipples: Gently press your areola about three centimeters behind your nipple. A normal nipple will then protrude or stand up, while an inverted nipple will retract or pull back.

Instructions for use
If you have flat or inverted nipples, you can use nipple formers - not to be confused with nipple shields - to try to gently pull out the nipple. Nipple formers are worn in a bra. To be able to wear the nipple formers comfortably, you may need to choose a bra one size larger. Nipple formers can be used during pregnancy or worn between feeds after the birth. Ask your midwife or breastfeeding counsellor for advice if you think you have flat or inverted nipples.
