I have looked in the operating instructions. This is the "Automatic output tray extender (also referred to as the tray extender)". It says "automatic output" so it seems normal. In a YouTube video I found (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kFel05Wj5U, 06:10), the "tray extender" is pushed in manually. But I still find it strange.
