Normally I have my two monitors connected directly to my PC's dedicated graphics card (has no USB-C only A). Now that I have an additional laptop, I like this solution with a docking station where I only have to reconnect one cable. Now to the question: Is the dedicated graphics card used for the displays when I connect the docking station to the PC via USB-A? Could there be unexpected problems if the docking station is connected to USB-A and a lot is connected to the docking station (LAN, 2x displays, 3 USB-A)? Thank you and LG
So on the one hand, the dedicated graphics card will not be used if you connect a monitor to a PC via USB (A or C). On the other hand, this USB-C dock will most likely not work if you try to connect it to a USB-A port on the PC.
What you need for your PC is something like this ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 . It comes with a DP cable that you use to connect your graphics card to this Thunderbolt card. Then you have the DP signal of the graphics card on the USB-C port.
