How does 2-sided scanning work? Is it automatic or do the originals have to be rotated and reloaded first?

No, this is done automatically, the pages do not have to be rotated manually. And it is also recognised whether the reverse side contains any text at all or not.
However, for documents that are semi-transparent or invoices with perforated EZS, the blank reverse side is also scanned. But the erasing works well in the software.
