How can I open the SD card slot? The hole on the side is too small for a paper clip.

You cannot open these McroSD slots with paper clips, a SIM tray tool must be used for this. These SIM tray tools are much thinner than a paper clip. They are also available for every modern smartphone, for example. If no such SIM tray tool is available, bending open a Bostich clip should also work, they are thinner than a paper clip.
