Has anyone else had the problem where the drive started beeping loudly and didn’t show up on the PC?

This behaviour is occasionally reported with external hard drives. A beeping sound often indicates that the hard drive is unable to start up correctly.

Possible causes:
- insufficient power supply
- faulty cable
- hardware fault
