Icy Box Cloning and docking station for 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives,IB-1232CL-U3
Good day My DeskTop Pavilion from 2008 has given up the ghost. Now I would like to save the hard disc. Is the Icy Box IB-1232CL-U3 the right solution? I've never done anything like this before. In the past maybe on a 3.5 inch disc or something. Looking forward to a reliable answer. Thanks in advance.
Hello, this worked perfectly for me. I copied 2 4T discs from 3.5 to SSD. It took all night. Please check the specifications carefully.
Unfortunately, ICY Box products have had considerable compatibility problems for 20 years. Some hard drives or PCs are not supported at all and end up in the rubbish despite all the advertising promises. Despite many promises and boasts of longevity, they often never supply the necessary drivers. The situation is still the same in 2025. I have just thrown away two new ICY Box hard drive enclosures, no PC (HP, Dell, Lenovo, Apple) recognises them (W10 Pro) and they are unusable, but the drives (HP by Seagate) work perfectly in enclosures from other brands! Pseudo German quality, inferior Chinese products! Get rid of it, no support. With such a device you can basically read your old HDD, other brands would be a better choice in my opinion.
It seems you have a desktop computer, so it must have SATA ports inside. You can connect an HDD directly to your computer without needing to buy an extra device. If you own a laptop, you might need an external enclosure to copy data to an extra HDD. However, if you have an external HDD with its own case, you can directly connect it to your laptop via a USB port.
