Question about Lenovo USB-C zu

Does this connection need power or is it just a passive part that you use when you don't have a LAN connection on your notebook but want to use LAN? In other words: If I turn off the notebook for a few days, should I take away as it drains the battery or does it not matter? Thanks for the answer.
