Can the robotic lawnmower be positioned outside the lawn? Or must it always be positioned inside the boundary?

As far as I know, at least one guide wire must be laid in the ground from the charging station to the area to be mown.
In this way, several independent (non-contiguous) lawns can be served by one robotic lawnmower.
