For my taste, this headset has too little bass in the standard setting.
But the sound quality is otherwise good

The "standard settings" as you call them are perfect for some and not for others. It always depends on what you have already set on the PC. As for the second question, it raises more questions about your question than it should! Why should this be activated by Corsair? The headset will give you back what you set.
A little tip on the side if you use an Asus mainboard in your system decide either for ICue or for Armoury Crate. If both programs are running at the same time, there may be problems with the RGB lighting.
