About the scan function: Can the machine automatically scan BOTH sides of sheets from the multi-bypass tray?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. The feeder does not have a sheet turning function. So you can only scan/copy on one side.
Printing is possible on both sides.
In general, this is a good device, it runs without any faults, I am very satisfied.
