Sony A1 55" Review

I bought the Sony A1 on Saturday the 16th of Sept, after a long time checking out which oled is the best one for me. I'm already an owner of an LG 950 oled, which is a very good TV. It has no Dolby vision and is now two years old. I thought buying a 2017 Sony A1 flagship oled would be a fantastic upgrade. Well to be honest it was until I connected the cablecom box, HD and SD picture slightly disappointing. Dark scenes better, no microblocking otherwise my old 950 has the better picture. HDR! Very good on the Sony but to be honest I need a TV which upscales HD and SD better than my old TV, that's the whole reason about buying a new TV
The other big down side on this TV was the reflection on the screen. It was worse than my old Plasma! While I have an Oled already, I can compare both oled's very good. I'm writing this review because I'm absolutely fed up with all these reviews on the internet and YouTube saying how brilliant these TVs are. You set them up at home and then you're ever so disappointed. I'm not putting this TV down it's a great! but it's not for me.
I think digitech should give the customer 10 days trial for new TVs over a certain price.

Pro

  • Great design
  • Sound is fantastic for an oled TV
  • No microblocking in Dark scenes

Contra

  • Picture quality HD and SD not as good as I expected for a Sony flagship!
  • Bad reflections on the screen in a bright room

Sony has one of the best upscale technologies. Probabely there is something wrong setup between the cablecom box and the tv. Wrong RGB range or something else. If you are serious about picture quality you always need to calibrate the tv with a calibrator. Factory settings are always odd.

and it is ok digitec has no sale or return like in germany. I hate second hand electronic devices. in switzerland you can be sure you get a new unopened device. there are enough stores where you can check devices before you buy them.
