SparkFun SparkPunk Sound Kit
Electronics kitProduct details
The SparkPunk kit is a sound generator created in the spirit of the Atari Punk console.
Instead of simply replicating the Atari Punk, the SparkPunk is a new design based on a similar foundation. It starts with a dual 555 timer IC, then adds a second sound source, sub-octaves, and a bandpass filter. With all the knobs and switches, many sonic variations are possible. As a through-hole kit, the SparkPunk can also be easily expanded and modified, further broadening the range of sounds.
The SparkPunk is a very simple synthesizer that uses a somewhat conventional arrangement of oscillators feeding a filter. All you need to know to play this sound generator is to press the button, adjust the knobs, listen to the results, and tune your music as you wish. The SparkPunk is designed for exploration and fun! Some people are drawn to gentle, soothing sounds, while others prefer clanging tones, and that's perfectly fine; everyone has their own preferences. With all the controls, you should be able to explore both ends of the spectrum.
Additionally, the SparkPunk is quite customizable. Any knob with a 0.25" inner diameter can be attached to the top of each potentiometer, external speaker wires can be soldered to the board for a more permanent sound distortion option, and photoresistors can be added to control the kit without actually touching it. There are many more optional modifications that can be added and experimented with.
