The OM4 fiber is an optimized 50µm fiber with extended bandwidth. It is used to enhance system performance for existing applications up to 10 Gbit/s as well as for future applications with 40 and 100 Gbit/s. This fiber type supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and OIF applications. The OM4 fiber is suitable for longer distances of over 550 m at 10 Gbit/s and 300 m at 40 Gbit/s. With an effective modal bandwidth (EMB, also known as laser bandwidth) of 4700 MHz-km (far exceeding IEEE requirements), the OM4 fiber is also particularly well-suited for shorter distances in data centers and for high-performance computing applications.
