The new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus now comes with approximately 10% more performance, an integrated A/C radio module for 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi (WLAN), and Bluetooth 4.2! The processor is based on the Broadcom SoC known and used in the Pi 3, features 4 cores (Quad Core CPU) like the Pi 3 model, and now clocks at 1.4 GHz.
With this performance boost, it is much better suited for use as an energy-efficient desktop replacement in the office or at home. Applications run even more smoothly and efficiently while still being very energy-efficient. Thanks to passive cooling (if necessary), this developer board is also ideal for use in the living room, for example, as a media center. Here too, the performance increase is very beneficial!
Nevertheless, the dimensions remain HAT-compatible, and the board is just as large, or rather small, as the still-current predecessor models Raspberry Pi 3 Model B or the "One" B+.
Since the connections for video, audio, and USB data have remained in the same place, most existing cases will also be suitable for the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. Only those with integrated heat dissipation will need to look for suitable new cases, as the CPU form factor (height) has changed.
But be careful, there is also a fundamental change in power supply! Due to the more powerful processor (1.4 GHz CPU) and the integrated WiFi/Bluetooth chip, power consumption has increased. This means that a 5.1 V/2.5 A power supply (MicroUSB) is required! The usual, weaker 5 V/2 A Micro USB universal power adapters may therefore be unsuitable for the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+.
