No, the Velux Gateway is connected to the WLAN.
The external roller blind probably has poor WLAN reception. The best thing to do is to contact Velux support.

Yes.
What was very tedious: I had to read in the (old) radio remote controls several times. So don't give up. The app is rather poor. However, Apple Home control and automation works very well.

It is basically very easy to learn with the existing remote control.

However, I reconfigured mine again, so I had to press the connection button on the external roller shutters myself (go to the roof). But this is only necessary if you teach it to a new remote control. You can find simple, well-explained videos from Velux for all the steps.
I now have my 4 external roller shutters in Homekit and can control them individually. Groupings are also possible.

Yes, it should work. I don't have Google Home, but I was able to integrate everything into Home Assistant without any problems. Unfortunately, percentage control is not possible, only open or close.
