As far as I can tell, you can use any PDF but... - The PDF is not the best format for reading, it does usually not allow the reader to adjust settings like police type/size (that you might like to change for comfort) - I'm not sure that the Tolino has a pdf "Reflow" technology (bookeen does: https://youtu.be/7sf5DyUWn-4?t=57 ) to make reading better...
Not sure what you are asking. You can load your ebooks from Calibre onto this reader, yes.

PDF format is fixed. Analogous to a photocopy of a book page, the format cannot be changed in size or aspect ratio (portrait, landscape format & font size). The representation of the PDF files in the "predecessor models" remains as saved. With this product, I cannot judge. However, I am very satisfied with the V3 & V4 models.
