You can. I will mostly do it without an app. And if I do, it's only to switch it off more quickly. However, it is advisable to use the app at least once at the beginning to make certain settings.

For me the difference is big. After "noise cancelling" message outside noise is noticeably reduced. Sadly they lose this ability with a time, especially if I walk, so I need to go through all three states again to improve noise cancelling. I'd say you should try to reset yours using the app, and send them back in case it doesn't help. Cheers.

I used it with Samsung 7, 9. Pairing was no problem.
I wear them for sports. They sit very well in the ear and don't fall out. I have not yet had any experience with splashing water.
