I don't know Surface Go, but on the USB-C port of an HP Zbook, the USB ports and card reader work fine with Windows.
Yes, if it holds then. It's rather annoying to work with and gets very hot. The adapter broke after about 1 month.

Yes, you can, you just need two cables: Female USB-C to Female USB-A and another ordinary USB-A to USB-A cable. The first one goes to the HUB, the second one connects the first cable (and thus the HUB) to your iMac. Just search for "Female USB-C to Female USB-A" on Google Images, the first image is the cable.
