No, no adapter is required. The camera can be connected directly.
However, the cable may be connected incorrectly. The cable has contacts at both ends on only one side (front/rear).

To connect the camera to a Raspberry Pi 5, you do not need a special RASP CAM FPC 20/30/50 camera cable. The standard cable supplied with the camera should be sufficient as the Raspberry Pi 5 models have the same camera connector as other Raspberry Pi models that are not Zero. However, Raspberry Pi Zero models require a special cable due to their smaller connector.
I use Kemo; not very bright but more than sufficient for my needs (monitoring a cat flap from a distance of about 2 m)
