The Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Workstation Dock has a 300W power supply unit. This power supply unit is larger than the docking station. However, I need a smaller power supply for a construction. Is it possible to connect a smaller power supply unit? What function would this restrict? If it is only about the charging speed of the laptop, it would not be a problem. However, if certain functions of the docking station would be reduced, that is not good. My laptop has a 65W power supply, so the 135W power supply could be sufficient. Lenovo 4X20E50562 Does anyone have any experience?

What kind of laptop do you have? One with a lot of RAM and a large graphics card? Then 135 watts could be a bit tight. My experience tells me that for a normal laptop, 135 watts is enough. However, it becomes problematic if you have too many external devices connected. E.g.: external hard disc - 2x monitors etc.

I have a Lenovo notebook (P1 Gen 4) and also now the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 4. When I now connect this via USB to the notebook, I get the message: The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the AC adapter which was shipped with the system. This message appears directly in the BIOS/UEFI even before Windows has been booted. Why? I thought this Thinkpad was designed to work like this? Do I really have to connect the power cable to the notebook as well? If so, the competition has definitely done better (Dell and HP). I've already googled it and many show that it should work with a screwdriver. However, I don't want to take the box apart as this would invalidate the warranty and, more importantly, it's not my personal device. Anyone have a clue?
