No, the hard drive has a (1x) USB-C connector that can transmit USB 3.1. Even though Thunderbolt 3 uses the same connectors, it is a different signal that is not compatible with each other.
We bought 2 of these 8 TB drives. Externally, they get relatively warm, which made me wonder. So we installed a driver and monitoring programme DriveDx so that the SMART information can be read out, with the result that the drives effectively get too warm. We now cool externally with a USB fan, which has totally alleviated the situation.
However, I would really expect a decent thermal design from a company like LaCie - with previous discs (they in the silver, ribbed aluminium body) this was still the case.
