Difficult to answer, according to the Samsung list, ANT+ devices are compatible with the Watch7, but it is not known whether all data is transmitted. Garmin only guarantees full compatibility with its own Garmin devices. It is best to try it out with a chest strap from a colleague... I have an Enduro 2 (similar to the Fenix7x) and always use the chest strap for sports (jogging and cycling). The strap records interesting additional data and the heart rate data is much less susceptible to interference. The watch alone is sufficient for hiking.
As far as I know, the strap is for Garmin devices. The Apple Watch has its own heart rate monitor in the watch. LG Tom

Yes, it's ok. I don't do it very regularly, but I've never had any problems. Just rinse it off in the shower at the end. The problem is that it tends to slip off when you swim faster (if you're not wearing a wetsuit or swimskin). If you want to use it regularly for swimming, I would buy the swim version, which holds better in the water with the wide strap.
