If the SSD or HDD is not detected by the computer, you must also connect the USB 2.0 Power. You can also connect this to the USB 3.0.
This is normally only sufficient for hard drives and not for a Bluray drive. USB2.0 delivers max. 500mA at 5V and USB3.0 max. 900mA at 5V. So the total is only 1.4A. I recommend to buy an external optical drive directly or the following product: ICY BOX IB-550StU3S , 5.25" Alu Enclosure, SATA, USB 3.0 (3.5", 5.25")
