Product details

The Playduino ESP8266-13 has the same dimensions as an Arduino UNO, but it operates with an ESP8266 processor clocked at 80 MHz, featuring Wi-Fi with an onboard antenna and 4 MB of flash memory.

This greatly simplifies prototyping with the ESP8266, as existing prototyping shields and enclosures for the Arduino UNO can be reused.

It also includes a CH340 USB-to-serial converter, allowing the board to be connected directly to a PC for programming. The Arduino IDE is fully supported; you only need to install the ESP8266 boards once via the board manager. Specific software for the ESP8266 can also be programmed, such as the LUA firmware.

The board is powered through the USB port. A power supply of 6 V - 16 V can also be connected via a DC jack. The operating voltage of the board is 3.3 V, and the I/O ports are not compatible with 5 V!

Since the ESP does not have the same I/O ports as the ATmega326 of the Arduino UNO, the pinout is not identical—meaning that shields for the UNO cannot be used without software and possibly hardware modifications.

The following ports are available:

Power:

* 2 x 5 V
* 3 x GND
* 1 x 3.3 V
* 1 x VIN

Serial:

* 1 x TXD
* 1 x RXD

Digital I/O:

* SCL
* SDA
* D0
* D1
* D2
* D3
* D4
* D5
* D12 (on the same pin as MISO (SPI))
* D13 (on the same pin as MOSI (SPI))
* D14 (on the same pin as SCK (SPI))
* D15 (on the same pin as SS (SPI))

Analog Input:

* A0 (input voltage 0 V - 1.0 V!)

The LED on the board is connected to pin 0.

To program the board, it must be put into upload mode. This is done by pressing the FLASH button while simultaneously pressing the reset button.
