Palmer Audio LI 05 Line Isolation
Product details
Symmetrical or asymmetrical, with the BALUN/PLI05, it's not a question. BALUN stands for Balanced-Unbalanced. This means that due to the TRS (stereo) jacks used in the PLI05, both input and output can be operated symmetrically or asymmetrically. The PLI05 is the smaller sibling of the PLI02. Both boxes can be used to convert from symmetrical to asymmetrical signals, and both contain so-called line isolation transformers for galvanic isolation. They are placed between mains-powered audio devices to effectively eliminate ground loop hum. The PLI02 is designed for use with XLR connectors and is intended for low impedances (600 Ohms). In contrast, the PLI05, with its jacks, is better suited for higher impedances. It can operate over a wide range from 600 Ohms to over 10 kOhms. However, to keep level losses minimal, the input impedance should not be lower than the output impedance.
