An optical patch cable (jumper cable) is a standardized or custom connection cable that is terminated with optical connectors at both ends. Patch cables are used to connect devices within a rack or to connect active components to an optical link that ends in the rack. Patch cables are typically duplex (2 fibers, 4 connectors), but simplex (1 fiber, 2 connectors) cables for single-fiber xWDM applications can also be supplied upon request. Connectors E2000, SC, and LC are then connected in duplex configuration with a clip – this is detachable and allows for the splitting of a duplex patch cable into two simplex cables (not possible with the robust HEAVY DUPLEX variant).
