Recently, camera manufacturers have criminally neglected entry-level cameras. As a result, hardly any new models have come onto the market that are available from specialist retailers for less than 1000 euros - let alone for less than 500 euros. In the days of DSLRs, the choice in this price range was much greater...

If you can do without the viewfinder, the X-M5 is a small system camera with great AI autofocus and high image quality at a moderate price. Viewfinder fans will find what they are looking for in the Sony Alpha 6600, which is just over 1000 euros and comes with an image stabiliser...
- Autofocus with good scene recognition
- films longer than 30 minutes and in 4K60p
- No viewfinder and no built-in flash
The X-M5 is also built primarily for video fans. It delivers high image quality and has a fast and precise autofocus. It is easy to operate. However, photographers should consider whether they can do without a built-in viewfinder and flash before buying. The grip of the X-M5 is small. With larger lenses, it quickly becomes top-heavy.

The Reflecta x44-Scan is ideal for quickly viewing slides or negatives and digitising selected images with usable quality. What is missing is an HDMI connection to present images on a TV set. But that would probably have driven up the price.

- The compact dimensions and light weight of the Fujifilm X-M5 make it a system solution in compact camera design. The proven image sensor and the new processor ensure high image quality. The many film simulations provide additional creative freedom.
- The compactness of the camera is achieved, among other things, by dispensing with elements that photographers want (see above). These include a viewfinder for more image control in bright surroundings and the stabiliser based on a sensor shift (IBIS).
With its price of 899 euros (without lens), the X-M5 is a tempting offer. Above all, users who are looking for a camera for social media productions will respond to this, as this is where the new product really comes into its own and the points of criticism mentioned are not decisive...

- High image quality
- 6K video function
- Integrated film simulations
- High speed
- Compact case
- no optical viewfinder
