Fiber optic patch cables are defined components of an internationally standardized structured cabling system according to ISO/IEC 11801. Over time, various connectors have evolved in structured cabling, with the following still being relevant: LC, SC, E2000, MPO/MTP. A fiber optic patch cable represents the shortest connection between a passive cabling port and an active network port, or a point-to-point connection between two active network ports. Quality classes allow for a qualitative distinction of fiber optic patch cables depending on the network service. Equivalent terms for patch cables include patch cords, adapter cables, connection cables, hybrid cables, jumpers, and connection cords.
