Product details

This is an Arduino-compatible sound level meter from DFRrobot, also known as a decibel meter or noise meter. It uses an electronic circuit and a low-noise microphone, allowing for accurate measurement of the ambient sound level. It can be used to assess environmental noise, such as monitoring highway noise or bedroom noise. The meter operates on 3.3 to 5 V DC, and the signal is evaluated through the analog output, which generates a voltage between 0.6 and 2.6 V. Thanks to the analog output signal, the meter can be operated with many microcontrollers. The decibel value is linear with the output voltage, leading to simple conversion without a complex algorithm.

Note: The black film on the microphone is a sensitive component. Do not touch it with fingernails or other sharp objects. Do not place this module on electrically conductive surfaces, as this may short-circuit the microphone pins.

Features of the sound level meter:

  • High precision due to the built-in low-noise microphone
  • Operating voltage 3.3 to 5.0 V
  • Compatible with 3.3 V/5 V microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32, or ESP8266
  • Easy conversion, as the linear analog output of 0.6 to 2.6 V corresponds to 30 to 130 dBA

Technical details:

  • Input voltage (VCC): 3.3 V to 5.5 V
  • Input current: 22 mA@3.3 V, 14 mA@5.0 V
