Product details
So what is this crazy pedal? At first glance, it looks like many other Carl Martin pedals - there’s a high gain channel with plenty of bass and nice crisp highs, a very dynamic crunch channel that emphasizes the mids with very little compression, and of course, the famous 12 dB boost channel that everyone knows so well. Is that it? Okay, the high gain and crunch channels were voiced according to Greg's specifications, but is it just a pedal based on Greg Howe's own signature sounds? No, behind the simple cosmetics lies a new concept of how these channels work together. Yes, you can use either the high gain or the crunch channel alone and adjust the tone for each channel with the corresponding tone knob, and yes, you can also add up to 12 dB of crystal-clear boost to either of these channels, but you can also engage both gain channels together. By placing the high gain channel first in the chain, you allow the crunch voicing to overlay the high gain channel while simultaneously gaining a few dB more volume. While you do lose some of the lows and highs, the result is a focused and controlled midrange that cuts through the mix. Of course, you can also add up to 12 dB of clean boost to create powerful leads with plenty of tone and sustain.
The Greg Howe Lick Box features the usual metal cast housing, high-quality switches with LED indicators, and Carl Martin's new DC/DC converter circuit. This new circuit allows the use of a 9V power supply while maintaining the ±12V circuitry, which is crucial for the quality of the components and the additional headroom compared to most 9V pedals. The power consumption is an impressive 150 mA.
