The neutral gray half of this graduated filter, with a transmittance of 50% (1 f-stop), darkens the subject area by one f-stop without changing the color. This is ideal for situations where the sky is too bright relative to the landscape, allowing for good cloud detail and preventing the blue sky from fading due to overexposure.

B+W Graduated Gray Filters are commonly used in landscape photography to prevent overexposure of the sky while correctly exposing the ground. The effect of this filter can only be minimally simulated through electronic image processing, as image information is typically lost in overexposed areas.

Each filter features a half neutral gray tone with a smooth transition into the neutral filter half. The rotatable mount allows for precise horizontal alignment when the filter is securely attached. The glass substrate of the B+W Gray Filter 702 is a plane-parallel ground and finely polished filter disk, ensuring long-lasting high optical quality.
