The UV filter blocks the invisible UV component of daylight that can cause blurriness and affects many color films with a blue tint. The images gain brilliance, and distracting bluish veils are avoided. Since the glass is colorless, aside from eliminating the blue tint, neither the color reproduction is altered nor is there a need for exposure extension. Therefore, the UV filter is also suitable as a front lens protection against flying sand, seawater splashes, etc., and can remain permanently on the lens. It is recommended for both analog color and black-and-white photography, as well as for digital captures.
