SMA connectors are primarily used for applications in frequency ranges from 1 GHz to 18/26.5 GHz (depending on the version). SMA stands for Sub-Miniature A. The connectors are referred to as male and the sockets as female, regardless of the design of the inner conductor as a metal pin or a metal tube. They have high mechanical strength due to the screw locking mechanism (8 mm).
