The Audio-Technica-designed 53mm driver of the ATH-AD500X is integrated around the CCAW voice coil to produce superior sound with dynamic, balanced bass. The headphones are equipped with large ear pads that completely surround the ear. These ear pads are elastic and made of roughened material for optimal wearing comfort and resilience. The 3D wing system is found in all Audio-Technica hi-fi headphones. The two detachable wings are directly connected to the headband construction. No width adjustments are necessary when putting the headphones on and they automatically adapt to the shape of the head. Any pressure sensations are reduced by the system and the weight of 235 g is hardly noticeable.
