Product details
We love our black-and-white monochrome displays, but we also want to splash around with some color from time to time. Our new 0.96-inch OLED color displays are perfect when you need an ultra-small display with vibrant representation and high-contrast 16-bit color. The visible part of the OLED measures 0.96" diagonally and contains 96x64 RGB pixels, each made up of red, green, and blue OLEDs. Each pixel can be set with a resolution of 16 bits, allowing for a wide range of colors. Since the screen uses OLEDs, there is no backlight, and the contrast is very high (black is truly black). We chose this display for its excellent color; this is the most beautiful mini OLED we could find!
This OLED uses the SSD1331 driver chip, which manages the display. You can communicate with the driver chip via 4-wire write-protect SPI (clock, data, chip select, data/command, and an optional reset pin). The fully assembled breakout includes the OLED display, a small boost converter (required to power the OLED with 12V), and a microSD card holder. New! We have updated this design so that it works with built-in logic level shifting, allowing you to use it with 3-5VDC power and logic. Our example code shows how to read a bitmap from the microSD card and display it via SPI.
Of course, we wouldn't just give you a datasheet and say "good luck"! We have written a complete open-source graphics library that draws pixels, lines, rectangles, circles, text, and bitmaps, along with example code and a wiring tutorial. The code is written for Arduino but can easily be ported to your favorite microcontroller!
