I don’t know about you, but I hadn’t bought a graphics card since March 2021, and do you know what card I had back then? An AMD OG STRIX RX 6700 XT O12G Gaming, a card that worked hard and deserved its time, and it was time to make room for Godzilla. Yes, that’s what I’m going to call it. I mainly use it for video editing on DaVinci Resolve, which is very well known for being extremely demanding on both the graphics card and VRAM. At first, I wanted to buy an RTX 5090 with 32 GB of VRAM, but given the prices, my finances could not keep up, so I went for the RTX 5080 instead. I was really afraid it would not meet my expectations with only 16 GB of VRAM, especially since my old card already had 12 GB. I was wrong. This is not the same memory quality nor the same technology. 4K editing was acceptable before, but now it is something I had never experienced before, not to mention the rendering speed of videos. I am truly impressed. I also play competitive games such as Street Fighter 6, Counter Strike, and League of Legends, and there is absolutely no perceptible latency. I am extremely sensitive to latency, and I was constantly fighting with my old graphics card, because even after optimizing it, I could still feel that I was losing because of it, especially in a competitive fighting game like Street Fighter 6, where every frame is crucial. The game only runs at 60 FPS, and if your graphics card introduces even a bit of latency or you lose a single frame, you lose the match. I have made my decision, I will never go back to AMD. On top of that, I owned software worth hundreds of francs that I could not use in DaVinci Resolve because it was only compatible with CUDA capable NVIDIA GPUs. It is expensive, but in my opinion, the investment is absolutely worth it for both work and gaming.

PS. I just hope that one day the global RAM shortage will come to an end and that we return to an era where NVIDIA GPUs are once again affordable at MSRP prices.
