Sound - a firecracker at a fair price

Edit from 09.05.2025:

After years of satisfaction with the workmanship, I'm making clear concessions regarding the materials of the Audeze. The leather of the headband is now disintegrating and a new headband costs a whopping
250,- ChF or more. Big minus point!!! Of course, this doesn't change the sound and comfort qualities at all...

Original review:

As soon as you take the device out of its foam shell, which fits like a glove, you realise: "Oh, my... This weighs quite a bit! But more on that later. The materials feel very high quality. The headband is made of metal and attached to it is a simple-looking but very functional leather strap, which is intended for padding on the head. The shells are also made of black lacquered metal - unlike those shown here. The connecting cable, which ends in a 6.3 mm jack plug, is of course detachable in this price range. It is made of corded plastic and is approx. 180 cm long. The ear pads are made of very finely crafted leather.

Seat

I wear glasses and this is no problem at all with the LCD 2 Classic. I haven't measured the weight, but you can tell that you're not wearing some cheap Hama rubbish. The headphones have a clearly noticeable weight, but not to its disadvantage, no. On the contrary: the weight of the LCD 2 Classic feels very comfortable and even after hours of wearing, it never becomes uncomfortable, let alone tiring. With their soft leather, the ear cups nestle comfortably against the cheeks and it has to be said: yes, they are very large. If you take a selfie and look at it, you'll look a bit like Princess Leia from "Star Wars" :-)

Sound

Well... what can you say? Headphones in this price range are usually used with a headphone amplifier, so I can only give an extremely subjective impression here. Personally, I use the RME ADI-2 DAC headphone amplifier / DA converter and in this combination I noticed the following: you can confidently put the bass booming of the relevant (high-quality) headsets and Bluetooth headphones to one side. If you're a fan of "Beats" or "Bose" bass, we would advise against buying them at this point. However, if you want to hear every instrument in an orchestra, you should go for the Audeze! The sound is analytical, but not TOO analytical. Warm, but not TOO warm. Lower bass than the aforementioned candidates, but not TOO low bass. I hope I can get that across correctly... Personally, I'm thrilled by the fact that I can now hear instruments in some passages of my favourite pieces that had previously remained hidden from me. And that's exactly what I love about this device!

Conclusion

I am thrilled. Nothing less.
