Did a comparison between Aptamil, Bimbosan and Hipp

Our baby was 3 weeks old when she started needing formula.
I did an extensive research between the brands Aptamil, Bimbosan and Hipp within the organic variants of their lineup. Aptamil was the first to be excluded, it is
a very complete milk and very nourishing but their formula is a bit complex and not for every belly. Since our family is very sensitive on the intestine, Aptamil was out.
I remained with Bimbosan and Hipp as possible choices.
I read almost everywhere that a lot of parents changed from Aptamil to Hipp. However I was not very convinced because I trusted the Swiss made logo therefore I thought it had to be more refined and advanced.
I was wrong.
Both our Swiss pediatrician and the midwife told us that Bimbosan formula has some issues for not being very nourishing. It had to do with the quantities of powder used by 30 ml of milk. They were already notified by the Swiss pediatrician society to change how the dosage is calculated but they refuse to update the formula.

Basically when she was between week 4 and 5, she started to drink beyond 90 ml. So we prepared 135ml dosage and it was not enough. She needed around 150 ml to feel well and the maximum dosage at the time was 700 ml per day, so if she was drinking 150 X 6 she was way beyond the limit. She was peeing a lot and complaining after drinking the milk because she was hungry. She would calm down, we even thought it was gases but after 2h, she started crying with hunger.
So we changed to Hipp bio combiotik and Shazam, new baby. 135 ml and she fells asleep right afterwards. Gases are still there but nothing like before and we now have quiet nights.

Bimbosan bio is a great formula if the baby has 4 months and you are able to mix it with cereals. It’s light, easy digestible and easy to prepare. With cereals it just works due to the perfect consistency.
For early stages, from just 1 or 2 weeks old only drinking formula to replace an absent mother’s milk, I wouldn’t use this formula.

Pro

  • Very light and easy digastable
  • It instantly dissolves with no clumps
  • Good milk from 4 months on

Contra

  • Not very nourishing for weeks old babies
  • Dosage is a bit tricky

    Grundsätzlich gilt: Muttermilch first ;)

Ready to drink formula is the less recommended by any peditrician.
Bimbosan Bio Milk was not recommended by 2 Swiss healthcare professionals. As they stated, it's a great milk but not for new born babies.
    The truth is that
my baby is already 4 months old and never had issues or crisis as she had during the weeks we tried Bimbosan.
Reviews and opinions about milks or any products are necessary so that we dont feel lost when something like this happens.
Just because we dont like or agree in what we are reading, we shouldn't consider that anecdotic. It's a bit ignorant to think like that.
