It all started with a comment. "I'd love it if you could give me a piece of equipment like this, so I can train with it and write a report on it", wrote user Marco_CH about the Bowflex treadmills. We liked the idea, so we're inviting you to apply to be a tester!
There are some products that we can't make disappear from stock in a flash, or put in the office for testing or hand out as gifts in front of our shop. Treadmills are definitely in that category that require some effort. But we don't let that put us off. "You don't get something for nothing" must have been the thought of Marco_CH, a member of the community.
I'd love it if you could give me one of these to train with for a race (e.g. Grand Prix de Berne or 20K) and record my progress.
OK! We think it's a cool idea. Here's the deal: our colleague Tim Nepomuck, with the participation of our supplier, is making a top-of-the-range treadmill, a Bowflex BXT 326, available for testing. Marco_CH is of course in the running, but he's not the only one - he'll also have to face the competition. That's why you too are invited to apply if you have the space at home and want to take on a sporting challenge this spring, whether it's the GP de Berne, your first marathon or the world record for 5000 metres in the backstroke (current record 19:07.13). What matters is that you want to train regularly and share your experience with us.
If we choose you, then you'll get advertising from us, which will be an added incentive. We expect you to tell us your story as soon as that big 154-kilo machine arrives on your doorstep: from its installation through your training to the competition on the big day. We don't want to miss a thing. The treadmill will stay with you for two to three months. After that, you can either buy it for 1000 francs less - that's 1420 francs - or return it to us. Write down a few things about yourself, what you'd like to achieve and why you'd like to take part. As this is a first-of-its-kind experience, we're open to all ideas.

Bowflex is an American brand. At the moment, the editorial team can't help joking about images of a muscular Ken and Barbie working out with gusto on such a machine in their imaginary penthouse, a world away from the idea of everyday sport that we have and would like to show off. We bought the treadmill from Trisport AG in Hünenberg, where Thierry Schenk gave me a no-frills presentation. In the showroom, people were busy packing and tidying up before the ISPO sports fair. So we board a BXT 326 next door in the meeting room. After clearing away the bulk of the dust, Tom, our photographer, and I can get a feel for it.
"It's a semi-professional treadmill," explains Thierry, spouting off the key info: incline up to 15%, maximum speed of 20 km/h, 4hp motor, maximum user weight of 180 kg, robust design. "The motor is protected and stays in place even if the treadmill is tilted or folded."I also learn that the conveyor is more cushioned at the front than at the back, where you push with your foot.
I also ask how this brand sets itself apart from the others. "It carries out a lot of surveys to learn more about what customers want," explains Thierry. But that's not for me to judge. Just a quick note for the road: I love the adjustable ventilation, like in a small car, located between the backlit buttons on the console. By the way, you'll have plenty of time to test and evaluate the eleven directly selectable programmes and other features during your workout, which we hope will help you achieve your goal. You have until 31 January to apply! We'll then discuss what happens next together.
